Never too old to be taught a lesson

Had a lovely moment with my daughter Taer this evening. After putting Lola to bed, we sat in her room and chatted as usual about her day. Sometimes I give them pretend stories, where they give me a few things they want to hear and I weave them into a pretend story, kinda fun for them but also easy for me as I find reading difficult.

We talked about what she learnt today and it was adjectives, verbs and reading. I kinda mentioned that I find it hard reading sometime and am looking at different way to improve my skills.

She stopped me and grabbed one of her books, something by Roald Dahl and asked me to read a paragraph to her. As usual, I was stuttering and stammering, and finding it hard to follow the words. Then she said “try reading each line with this bookmark” and gave me her Red Nose Day bookmark that she made a few years back. I read the second paragraph almost perfectly, it was amazing! I thanked her and told her that she was good at teaching and the most beautiful smile appeared on her face.

I handed the bookmark back to her and she said “keep if for your work daddy” I guess you had to had been there but it was a wonderful moment for me and something new taught to me by a very wise 8 year old girl.
