Just returned from a long weekend with the family to the Isle of Wight, our first time on the Island. It’s a beautiful place with plenty to do. We stayed at The Orchards Holiday Park, a static caravan park near Yarmouth, west of the island.

We were a bit apprehensive about staying on a caravan site, people was telling us it might be a bit chavvy, but the price was so good, £200 for three night, including ferry, and after reading the great reviews on Trip Advisor, we decided to give it a go. It was great, just normal people like us with kids grabbing a bargain. The indoor pool was lovely and the three bedroom caravan itself while basic, was very clean, warm and spacious.

Great thing about having a caravan (instead of a B&B) is you get individual rooms, the kids took one each (otherwise, they be up all night) we took the double but every night, I took my laptop, we was browsing through my music collection playing some awesome tunes! We got a bit drunk one night and Leeann taught me how to Salsa, in a caravan in the middle of nowhere!

We did a lot in four days, I cooked a bit but we mainly ate out, the highlight of my culinary express was The Waterfront Restaurant where I had lobster, The Garlic Farm where I had a lovely sweet garlic salad and On The Rocks, a brilliant steak restaurant where they serve the meat on hot volcanic stone. Really enjoyed the volcanic steaks, in fact, it was one of the best meals of the year, served up by an extremely hot Maître D, bonus!

We went to a lot of places too, Dino Isle, Sandown Pier, IOW Zoo, Ventnor Beach, The Needles Park, Ryde Town, Shanklin Chine and lots more, there is so much to do, that a week is probably needed. There is this amazing road the spans the south of the island, which is just an awesome drive and at sunset, the view is just stunning. Think I might go back there with my mate Lloyd next spring on the motorbikes.

The kids on the other hand was a mixed bag, especially Lolly, frankly she was a nightmare, we need to work on our discipline as she is so cheeky and disobedient, we can’t let that slide as she knows she can get away with a lot more that Taer.

So, Isle of Wight, what can I say, four days is just not enough, there is so much to do there and the food is great too. While the caravan was ok, spending a little more on accommodation is worth it. Definitely going back!
